Report of Free Camp for Children
with Disability
Spandan Holistic Child Care Centre organized
a Free Multidisciplinary Camp for Children with Neurological
disorder, developmental disability and mental health problems
on Sunday, 3rd February 2008 at B.M.C. School No. 3, Pant
Nagar, Ghatkopar (E), Mumbai.

Camp was inaugurated by chief guest Dr. Eswara Das, Deputy Advisor
AYUSH, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India,
New Delhi. Dr. (Mrs) P.P.Page, Principal, Y.M.T. Homoeopathic
medical college & P . G. Institute was the Guest of Honour.
Dr. Eswara Das expressed his deep happiness & satisfaction
on having witnessed the activities of the Institute. He praised
our founder trustee, Dr. Barvalia for his hard work & vision.
He was especially impressed with the work for the underpeiviledge
section of the society. He mentioned that he has never witnessed
such multidisciplinary holistic work with such a cohesive team
in the entire country and that Spandan can become a model institute
for many.
Dr. (Mrs.) P. P Page congratulated the Spandan team for doing
excellent work in the field of disability. She lauded the holistic
multidisciplinary approach & the team work for such a unique
cause.
Dr. Praful Barvalia briefed the audience about various projects
that Spandan had undertaken over last decade. This was supported
through a spectacular film on Spandan activities. He also shared
the vision of out institute of building a holistic mother –
child hospital.
One of the parents Mrs. Saroja Mani, shared her journey of managing
her son who was diagnosed mild M.R. ADHD. She shared that the
support of foundation’s team & Homoeopathy had been
of tremendous help due to which has son could pass diploma in
Automobile Engineering. Our chief guest felicitated Mrs. Saroja
& her son Krupakar Mani for their determination & efforts,
Dr. Amit Daftary gave a vote of thanks. Dr. Piyush Oza conducted
the function.
We examined 82 children with various kinds of disabilities.
Patients, with various conditions like slow learners, Learning
disability, mental retardation, Autism, ADHD etc. were examined
during the camp. Parents were given educational material.
They were given orientation regarding diagnosis, prognosis,
future options and various modes of therapeutic intervention,
education and rehabilitation.

Camp is like Yagna for awareness. Awareness empowers individual
with knowledge. Number of parents who were running from pillars
to post got an enlightening insight about their children’s
state and what they must do for them to make their future
bright.
