on Seminar on Autism & ADHD for Teachers

Barvalia Foundation’s Spandan Holistic Child Care Centre
organized a seminar on Autism and ADHD for teachers ‘Discovering
differently abled children in mainstream schools. The seminar
was free of charge. It was organized in collaboration with
Rotary club of Deonar Dist 3140. Seminar was organized in Brahman
Samaj Hall, Ghatkopar. 170 teachers participated in the seminar.
The purpose of the seminar was to sensitize and orient pre-primary
and primary school teachers about the sinister disorders like
ADH D (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) and Autism
in children
The seminar was inaugurated by Chief Guest Shri S.S Shinde,
Deputy Municipal commissioner –Education. Shri. Rajeshbhai
Dharod, principal –Rushikul School was the guest of honour.
Rtn Reghunath Rajan was the president of the function. Hon.
Director and founder of the institute Dr.Praful Barvalia briefed
the participants about the various activities undertaken by
our trust.
Chief Guest of the function S.S. Shinde appreciated foundation’s
initiative to train the teachers from the mainstream schools.
He emphasized the urgent need for many such programmes keeping
in view the changing scenario in our educational system.
Shri. Rajeshbhai Dharod , our guest of honour took keen interest
in the activities of our trust and promised to do more for
special children.
Rtn Reghunath Rajan president of the Rotary club of Deonar
spoke about the noble cause that foundation had been undertaking
for many years. He congratulated the foundations team and assured
of total support from rotary for the future events.
Distinguished and experienced speakers from the field addressed
the participants presented illustrative examples of cases treated
with homoeopathy. Various topics which are crucial to receive
insight regarding issues related to autism and ADHD were discussed.
Hon Director and Founder of the institute, Dr. Praful Barvalia
enlightened the group about philosophical foundation to appreciate
child’s world. Dr.(Mrs.)Usha Desai, senior pediatrician
and past head of medical Unit, BARC and Dr. Vijaya patil, senior
homoeopathic physician spoke about various clinical aspects
in Autism.
Dr. Piyush Oza senior Homoeopathic physician
spoke about the clinical aspects in ADHD.
Clinical Psychologist Miss Vinita Agarwal spoke about various
screening and psychological investigation in Autism and ADHD.
She also spoke about behaviour modification techniques which
teachers can utilize in a class room settings.
Occupational therapist Miss Preema Francis spoke about the
role of occupational therapy and various tools that can be
utilized to manage problems of ADHD and Autism.
Dr. Reena Singh who is an occupational therapist conducting
group therapy sessions gave practical tips of handling hyperactivity
and sensory disturbances in a classroom setting. She focused
on social skills training.
Senior special educator Mrs. Sujata Shrivastav discussed how
teachers can plan sessions for children with autism and ADHD
in mainstream school.
Mrs. Chitra Iyer trustee forum for Autism a parent support
group spoke on the parent’s perspective in educational
care for children with Autism. She gave excellent tips to care
takers.
Homoeopathic
doctors, through illustrative documented cases demonstrated
wonderful role this science plays in the management of these
disorders.
Dr. Priya Vaidya a renowned yoga expert spoke on yoga, mental
health and education. She presented interesting studies and
illustration to focus on mental health and suggested relaxation
and life style technique for teachers.
Dr. Amit Draftary, Asst. director of the institute gave the
vote of thanks.
Dr. Shankar Chawla, senior faculty member conducted the event
Awareness is prerequisite to solutions. Insight empowers an
individual to define complex problem with precision and gives
direction towards resolution of the problem. Camps and seminars
impart this awareness.
Event was a great success. 170 teachers from Primary and pre-primary
sections of mainstream schools participated in the event
We covered 40 schools from Mulund, Bhandup, KanjurMarg, Vikhroli,
Ghatkopar, Chembur, and Tilak Nagar area. Even teachers from
some special schools participated in the seminar.
The teachers showed a lot of enthusiasm and actively participated
in the seminar. The seminar was widely appreciated by all
the participants for the range and depth of the topic covered
as well as the quality of the speakers.
The events success would not have been possible without
the active involvement of the entire staff of the institute.
