Report of Cultural Show by Special Children

Foundation’s Spandan Holistic Child Care Centre and Special
School organized a cultural show ‘Little Wonder V’
by Special Children on Saturday, 17th March 2007 at Smt. Bhuriben
Golwala Auditorium, SNDT, Cama Lane, Ghatkopar (W), Mumbai
Every year we conduct programmes to highlight the talent of
special children. This year we invited special schools across
the city to showcase their talents through ‘Little Wonder
V’.
Apart from our special school for Slow Learners and Advance
School for Autism, 9 other schools participated in the show.
Around 100 children with disability participated in the event.
After recitation of the shloks and prayer, the show began by
a colourful fancy dress show by young students of Advance School
for Autism. It set the ball rolling as the participants began
their displaying talent one after the other with tremendous
élan! The audience was absolutely amazed by the quality
of the performances. They couldn’t believe what their
eyes saw.
The performances were colourful backed by foot tapping music,
attractive light setting and some very creative choreography.
The kind of co-ordination that all the special children showed
was simply amazing.
Along with the entertainment value, the kids also presented
theme based programmes with messages like ‘Save the tree’,
‘protect nature’ etc. Participants
were supported by their teachers and staff of respective schools.
Friends and Collegues from their schools, staff and parents
turned up in huge numbers to support and encourage all the participants.
Through this event, children with various disabilities like
Autism, Down Syndrome, Mental Retardation, Slow Learners, Cerebral
Palsy etc could display their talents and create awareness in
the general public about their potential. All the children and
the schools were felicitated by our guests and dignitaries for
the evening.
Shri Maheshbhai Gandhi – noted philanthropist was the
chief guest of the function. He congratulated the entire team
of Spandan and its founder Dr. Praful Barvalia for tremendous
effort to provide holistic care to children with disabilities.
Smt. Sarlaben Gandhi – Guest of Honour for the function
while congratulating all the participants and their parents
announced that she would extend all her help for such special
events.
President of the function – Shri Sudheendraji Kulkarni,
past joint secretary prime minister’s office (P.M.O) shared
his journey with the institute and expressed his happiness with
the kind of effort that the entire team was putting in.
Founder trustee, Dr. Praful Barvalia spoke about various activities
and projects undertaken by Spandan as well as the objective
behind organizing ‘ Little Wonder V’. He also shared
the vision about Deonar Hospital Project and its developments.
Dr.
Harsha Mehta, Principal of SIES college of Arts and Science,
Sion said that, she was overwhelmed by seeing the children perform.
She specially congratulated the teachers for the kind of effort
they were putting in to take care of the children. She congratulated
the team of Spandan and Dr. Barvalia for running such an institute.
She declared that SIES College had already started accepting
and accommodating special children the mainstream education.
Dr. Beena Punjabi – Principal of Guru Nanak college, Sion
and Smt. Saryuben Shah – President – Giant’s
Group of Ghatkopar were the other dignitaries.
A video film displaying various activities of Spandan Holistic
Institute was also shown.
We had also invited professionals from the music industry who
are blind and have achieved tremendous recognition to perform
for the show. Miss Komal Parekh was compeer of the programme
and music support was provided by Mrs. Harshaben Thakkar

- PERFORMANCE BY Shri PRAMOD PAWASKAR, who was visually
impaired and is a veteran musician played violin and flute.
He was assisted by noted tabla master Shri RAJANSINGH THAKUR
- PERFORMANCE BY Mr. SHARVAN who is visually impaired renowned
singer and has performed nationally and internationally.
Herculean efforts of event directors Dr. Amit Daftary, Dr. Piyush
Oza and Ms. Falguni resulted in phenomenal success of the event.
